Whether watching or taking part, sport plays a huge part in our national life, culture, story and pride. Forming and following teams, being inspired by or inspiring others, and striving to achieve the best result are all strands woven into our shared DNA — the sports community and Labour have much in common.
As Labour prepares to lead ‘Team GB’ forward, building a healthier and happier nation will be a central ambition.
Providing a platform within Labour to help understand, support and celebrate the contribution that the sports community brings, cannot wait.
Everyone deserves more opportunities, that are safe and inclusive, to engage with sports throughout life. Labour Society for Sport will connect the energy, entrepreneurialism, and camaraderie of sport with those who shape policy, to keep Labour firmly on the pulse of our nations’ sporting life.

“All my life, I’ve seen how sport binds communities; enhancing wellbeing, bridging barriers, and helping people to realise their potential. I grew up on rugby and cricket fields. My first full-time job was as a pro-rugby player with the Saracens. And it was through community sports coaching with young inner-city players that I made a contact who helped me gain work experience as a barrister. Now, I act in some of the most significant sports injury litigation and work to uphold trade union members’ rights. As a Labour general election candidate in 2019, dedicated trade unionist, and passionate advocate for the role of sport to inspire and uplift our national conversation and way of life, I believe it’s time to establish a platform that brings the sporting community and Labour movement together, so that those in every corner of the UK can access the full power of sport and recreation.”
